Hope everybody had a very happy Christmas!!This time it went so fast for me!! We made a very short trip to home to celebrate Christmas and came back in town on Monday. Today again going home to celebrate New Year and to attend some Weddings and there is a chance to meet some of my good old college friends too!!I am looking forward to it. And so this is going to be the last post of 2010. And I have something to show you too.A Pretty Cushion !!

I made this envelope cushion cover some weeks before and wanted to blog , but time did not allow me. This is a part of learning sewing and it came much more neat than my previous attempt. Embellished with some Crochet flowers!!

I planned some more things to do before Christmas but couldn't, the whole December went too fast!!Hope in 2011 I can make that up. Looking back, the year was pretty good!!Start of 2010, I took some resolutions and when I look into my Diary now I have a lot of tick marks there. That's a good feeling!!

So before winding up the post,
'If your thoughts can make you sad, your thought can make you happy too.Choose your thoughts on the way you want to feel'
On this thought, Wishing all readers a very happy 2011 filled with lots and lots of happiness, peace, prosperity and fun!!

Merry Christmas!!

"An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Saviour has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” Luke 2:9-12

No time for a big post,Off to native place tomorrow to celebrate Christmas with family, before that wishing all readers a very Happy Christmas!!

Cross Stitch Edged Hand Towel

Two more gifts are done!!This time I added some luxury to the usual hand towel with a touch of cross stitch to make it special and a good gift!!I love the combination of blue and white especially on cross stitching. The pattern is adapted from the snowflake pattern by Nima. I am very much happy with the stitching part, it came out so neat, but sewing part I was happy until my hubby told me the mistakes, that too at the first sight!!
The green cross stitch is a simple one, just made a zigzag with full cross stitch(I am not sure whether its called full cross stitch, this was taught in school in the weekly stitching class!!). I wanted to do another snowflake pattern on green towel too,but there was no chance to get a pattern at that time.My Internet connection was down from Tuesday evening and to top it our desktop crashed!! where I used to save all patterns!! Without any option , I made my own design :D
Overall I am happy with both my creations especially blue one. And before leaving, Thanks to all those who are visiting my small space and an extra thanks to those who take time to make a comment on!! And extra extra thanks to everyone who started following me on my FB Page. You all make me feel special!!
That's all for the day!!
Wishing you a very happy weekend!!

Season begins!!

In my last post about tray cloth, I mentioned that I was unhappy with the sewing part. After the post I got a mail from my dear friend Nima asking where I found difficult while sewing and a link to help finishing the corners.Oh!!she guessed where I went wrong!! and was very much there to help..Although a virtual help, I really needed that !!It is always a great feeling when someone is there to help you when you are in trouble,no matter the subject!!
So I tried the method mentioned in the file and I got a neat finish considering I am beginner. So much happy with the sewing part this time!!Thanks Nima!!
After finishing the sewing only I thought of embroidery part this time. As Christmas is here,I thought of making something special for the season. I have some Christmas patterns with me and I love this Candle pattern in particular. I did embroidery with this pattern before but selected this one again.Same colours, same stitches. But not at all bored!!
Its such a beautiful pattern, pattern link is given below.I embroidered on two sides and it looks pretty to me.I am planning for some more Christmas crafts/gifts, don't know what happens to it.
Tip for better corners in sewing: Go to this link.
Embroidery Pattern: Christmas Candle

That's all for the day
Hope everyone having a very good weekend.

A Bunch of Little Flowers -Tray Cloth

I did some embroidery after a long long story of crocheting. And it feels good.I am enjoying it.I took a very simple pattern because of time constraints.I don't have much time these days to put into crafts.I am attending some classes to change my "unemployed" status. So I sticked onto an easy pattern and used stem stitch for leaves and stem and satin stitch for flowers. And I love simple embroidery too.

I am always confused while selecting the colours and this time it was no different. And usually happy with the colours I chose and this time too. I made a tray cloth out of it and it looks beautiful.

I am keeping this with myself as the sewing part I am not perfectly happy. In the pic you don't find much mistakes as I have edited this pic a bit, and that's a confession!!!

Embroidery Pattern: A Bunch of Little Flowers from Mary Corbet's Needle n' Thread.

My Space -3

Something got a permanent position on my craft table from last week.Something I really wished for a long time.:) :)

Yes ,the sewing machine.I celebrated my birthday last week and this was my Mom's gift for me this year. Yes,I wanted this so much and she knew that very well :) :).

So last one week I was trying my hands onto this, to know the machine.I don't know sewing not even the basics, but somehow I am confident that I can learn this. And yesterday I took the courage to sew a cushion cover with a piece of embroidery I did long back.I knew very well that it was huge risk for a beginner, but I was in good mood. Struggled a lot, but I really enjoyed making this.See what I made,my very first attempt.

I can find a hundred mistakes in this in one glance, but I am very very much happy about the outcome. And many gave me a free advice to learn through practice,I also believe the same.

That's all for today.
Wishing you a very happy weekend!!

Colours!!

I told sometime before that I had a thread shopping. My stash was almost empty then and when I saw so much of colours in the shop I couldn't resit. For the first time I bought that much threads.I usually shop only if I need it, I will be having some plans with it. I didn't know what happened that day,I bought almost all the colours they had.

I arranged them on my working table, they looked beautiful..I dint have any idea what to do with them. Also I have some difficulty in working with the Anchor knitting thread.I am so used to work with Anchor size 20/40 crochet cotton and working with a thicker one was way too difficult(Most of people find difficult the other way and I must confess I have never worked with yarn!!!). Now I have a matching hook to make crocheting easy.
A few days before while browsing I got this idea of making Granny Square. I saw some amazing pictures on Ravelry. I started working on it and it was so easy. I showed u a glimpse of it in my last post. I am adding some more rounds to it and will show you after its done. You might have noticed some crochet motifs in that post. I saw pictures of crochet garlands on Internet and I loved them. I discussed with some of my friends and they too loved it. So I joined that motifs and made a floral garland. It looks really beautiful!!Love it..

Now I have enough options to play with these colours. You will see that in coming posts.
That's all for the day.

White Doily

Hey all,
Coming up with the Doily I have been working on.Its a White Doily and quite large enough. I started this about two weeks before and the progress was very gradual. That's my motto when I take large Doilies.

I used Anchor Crochet Cotton, size 20 in pure white for this Doily. Crocheting the initial rounds of this Doily was slow and while moving to the final rounds the progress was really fast. That's how I felt.

The pattern is by Cylinda Mathews and I find it a very clever pattern with some interesting designs onto it. Looking the final product,I felt like the pattern for 'athappoo' or Pookalam, we put for Onam.:) Anyway, happy with the outcome and I got an appreciation from my hubby that its neat. Very rare I hear something like that from him, he is my biggest critic. :) :)

Thats all for now.

Doilies again..

Hi,
I am in a gift making mode now. We are visiting our native next month, and I am planning to give my aunts some gifts.Actually they were asking me for "gifts" since last year!!So I'm making some Doilies for three of them. I think Doily is the best idea for me that works with this time limit.
I made two more Cutie Pie doilies, this time in red and green, I feel like Christmas!! Actually first I made one Red Doily, then I thought of making two more and attach them lengthwise to make like a runner.Again, change of mind, use two colours. like Red-Green-Red. And after making Green Doily,..u know.. repeating the same pattern so many times make any person bored :D That's what happened to me too. So the whole idea is on hold.Anyhow I have some doilies right now on my gifting account. And one more in making.I am crocheting this pattern now.Happy Happy :)
So that's all for the day!!

Cutie Pie Doily

Hello all,
Being a very health conscious person,I was taking rest for some days.I dint indulge too much into my crafty craziness and I'm back now.
I started with something very easy and I love making Doilies. And this is what I made,My Cutie Pie Doily. This is a very quick finish,I used anchor variegated thread (Shade No 01208).And it looks really cute with the shaded thread!!I'm making some more with the same pattern.

And then, I blocked some snowflakes I made.

My Space

Hey all,
All settled after some super busy days, but I must say it was wonderful!! My brother and family was here with us for some days. Had good time with them especially with my niece. She is 20 months old now, started talking, and wanted me to play with her.Loved it!!.When they left, both of us felt that silence at home :( Otherwise we woke up daily hearing her screaming for 'milk'.
A cousin's marriage was there in between, and many of our family members came to Bangalore to attend that. Some of them took special interest and visited our home too. What more to say??Enjoyed totally!!
They all left on Monday and from Tuesday evening I felt severe pain on my neck and was unable to move at all. :( Sad ending!!Don't know what happened, but now I'm feeling much better. I was on proper rest coz I hate(afraid of) going to a doctor/hospital.I really hate it!!
And last two days, with nothing to do other than 'holding my neck straight', I planned some new projects. All gifts which I postponed till date. I had this plan to give some gifts to 2 of my friends on their birthday. [They support and criticize me very much.In fact, most of the time they usually check my blog first as soon as I update it.]But I couldn't make it on time and now its going to be 2 months after their birthday. Better late than never!! I thought I'll give it a start and I can give them some Christmas gifts this year!!LOL

I'm going to make table mats,I decided the pattern, colours etc and I need to start with it soon. maybe after 2 days!!Also you can see the snowflakes in making!!I have some more gift plans, but blog abt that later!!yes later..
Until next post

Its Strawberry Time!!

Yeah, Its strawberry time!!I made these beautiful strawberries in crochet.A few days back Nima asked me to test this pattern, I was very happy to do it and the pattern came out good. But it was not in usual strawberry colour,I dint have enough red/green thread with me.

This was my creation.lol!!When she blogged about these strawberries,I couldn't resist myself from making some. I did some thread shopping last week and here are my strawberries!!They are very beautiful!!Thanks Nima, for sharing the pattern!!

For first time I crocheted with 2 threads hand in hand.It was tricky but after 2-3 trials I got it right.Other than that the pattern was really easy.A quick finish.Nima is giving away this pattern and today's the last date.Visit her blog for more details. I used Anchor knitting cotton for making this. I'm making some more of it.
That's all for now.

Flower Hair Clips

Hello all,
Many people asked me what did I do with those crochet flowers. Well,I sent some to Lakshmi on her request.I'm waiting to see what she's going to make with them. I had a few left and first thing came to my mind was hair clips for my dear niece.I bought some hair clips and glued these flowers onto them.

I saw picture of similar hair clips made by my friend for her niece on FB.That was long time back. Me and my SIL liked it very much but our cute lil girl dint have that much hair to flaunt with it..In fact she was a 'motta'(bald).I was waiting for her hair to grow and and now I think she has enough hair to hold these clips!!:D I so wish!!Anyway,My brother and SIL very well appreciates my gifts for them especially for their lil girl!and that's the happiest thing!!They are visiting us next week.

That's all news for now.

I love strawberry patterns as much as I love floral!!This pattern is again one of my fav.Very quick and easy design. Very cute too.. Here's the finished piece.

I put the finished piece in this wooden frame and it looks perfect!!

I framed my other finished cross stitch-floral tea cup too. I bought these two frames last week for a sale, not for this intention but to keep photos. When I got it home, I just thought of an alternative.

And before signing off, Wishing every Malayalees a very Happy Onam!!

Glass Painting - 2

And the second one is also done. Here I used water based colours all except for that orange part. I couldn't get the water based orange color anywhere near by my place and first time I used solvent based one. I had a box of solvent based glass colours which were gifted by a friend. When I used that for the first time, the result was not too satisfactory..the colours were too light. But this time, so far its okay.. In appearance also it's not making much difference..What say?

And Nima is giving away the crochet strawberry pattern.Check her blog for more details. You're going to love it.

That's all for now.

One of the glass paintings I started is done. I did not have enough colours with me. And I couldn't find any place nearby to buy one too. So I painted with what I had. I tried mixing colours to get the right colour I wanted and it can be seen very evidently in the whole painting. :( But in the pic it looks much much better!!

Crochet Vase Cover

When this year started,I took a crafty resolution to learn crochet.I really tried my best to learn this and almost half way through. Now I got a feeling that Am I becoming a lil addictive to it? I don't know..I made a vase cover this week and it looks beautiful!!Started with a lavender color, when it came closer to finishing, I found the thread not enough. So changed color there to a sapphire green color and finished it off.A matching sheer ribbon is attached to it.The edging was out of sight when I put flowers in.
A snap of vase without flowers. This pattern is also from freepatterns with name 'Pineapple Ruffles'.Anyway,I am giving crochet some rest, I dont have enough threads in my stash. I never thought I'd be in a situation like this, that I want to do something and not enough thread.Have to pull out all those UFO's on embroidery and need to start finishing that off and I have a glass painting and cross stitch in progress too. Don't know when I can finish that off. This is a very busy month.
Until next time

Cross Stitch-Floral Tea Cup

I am getting more interest in Cross Stitch these days. Before,I stayed back from this technique because of the strain it caused to my eyes. Then,it was like,I used to stitch continuously for hours. Now I don't sit like that and I do many things hand in hand. That's more fun!! The latest one on Cross Stitch, Floral Tea Cup, the stitching part is done. Now I need to get it framed. This lovely pattern you can find it here. I changed the colours slightly, but not huge difference, a bit brighter than the actual.. I love it that way!!
We are travelling to our home town today and will be back after weekend. Wishing everyone a very happy weekend!!

Crochet Hair Band

The hair band I was trying to make is complete now.Finishing the project is always a difficult thing for me. This time too.. I made the crochet lace and attached an elastic band at the end of it and wrapped the elastic with satin ribbon. I wanted to cover the elastic part with cloth as you see in other hair bands, but there was no matching material in my stash. I am not so happy with the finishing, but its okay, I am keeping this for myself. My hair conceals the satin lace part when I use this.So that's fine!!

The crochet lace pattern is from Crochetroo's Fan bookmark. I used Anchor size 20 crochet cotton in this lovely colour(don't know the number exactly).

Pillow embroidery

Yesterday was Bharat Bandh by NDA, a protest against fuel price hike. Usually in Bangalore, Bandhs are not affected very much, but this time most people stayed indoors. My hubby went to office, their company is one among very few IT companies in Bangalore who worked yesterday!!So my day went as usual!!
I did some embroidery on a pillow case which showed up while I was cleaning my cup boards. Its in very pale pink colour and I embroidered this basket and flowers on it. I saved this pattern long time before and got this from Hoop love.

I used a pink and white double shaded thread here and some flowers came in white which was not clear on this pillow case.Wrong choice of thread!! To make it visible I gave a straight stitch with pink in between lazy daisy. In this pic that's not clear, in real white flowers has got a pink tint.:D When embroidering flowers , I have an affinity towards pink especially when I stitch lazy daisy.Every time, I decide to embroider with some other colour, but usually ends up with some shades of pink.No issues as long as it adds beauty!!

Cross Stitch Table Runner

I ven't started any new stitching after my holidays.Things were not well around and that did affect me. I dint feel like doing anything, not even blogging. Now all the silly things around me make me upset..argh!!I hate that...Now I am almost relieved and trying to bring everything back in right place.Prayer,a few friends and my hubby really helped me to get through.I feel light at heart now.:D

And here I am showing off my cross stitch table runner in a completed stage. I did this some weeks ago.An yellow fabric is attached as the border and backing of the table runner.

Crocheted Doilies

Hello all,
Long time!! I was in Kerala most of the time in May too.Came back in Bangalore last week and was down with fever. :( Now almost relieved. I did not start any new crafty projects, but to keep me occupied during the free time and train journeys I crocheted some doilies. All of them have pineapples in it and was not a deliberate attempt.
A bright Red Doily done with Size 20 Anchor Crochet Thread.

Another one with Yellow and White combination. My idea was to make an yellow doily, but fell short of thread and so I took white thread and continued and I totally love this one.

Next comes a peach doily, the pattern is same as the above, I added some more rounds here.

That's all for this post. Will come up with some more crafty finishes in my next one. till then
Take care
Have a nice day!!
