Hydrangea Granny Sqaures

There was this plan, to make home accessories in a colour/theme , which was on hibernate mode. I love hydrangeas, the colours, the bunch makes me happy. I collect vase flowers, anything and everything with these flowers which are pleasing to my pocket. A hydrangea theme was in my mind for sometime, and last week I gave a kick start for it.

It was an impulse start and the squares were done in record time. The colours came out really well as I visualised. Teal and blue with a lil pink and lavender worked like magic. The squares are very soothing to eyes.

I was so excited making these squares and one of my favourite projects so far. I want to finish these off as a cushion cover, which I will do later. I want to do it my old way ,attaching the panel to the plain cushion cover. It will have to wait. There are some more things I want to make in hydrangea theme, slowly i will achieve it.

Red snowflake Garland

I love making snowflakes and ofcourse garlands!! These can be perfect gifts and very christmassy!

Last week was not productive and then on Sunday Nima showed me her beautiful snowflake garland on whatsapp. I took my hook ,thread and immediately started with this pattern I saved from Instagram. Im thankful the bunch of friends on whatsapp for huge inspiration they give. Its such an easy pattern but very pretty!

I blocked this using white craft glue.  Then added these jingle bells on it .I love the texture and sound it gives to the garland.

And ta-daah!! Love it!! I think I will be making a few more snowflakes for this year. So hows your Christmas crafts going? Off to my friends blog to see whats happening!!

Incandascence Mandala

The mandala bug bites again!! This time I tested a pattern for a friend and I chose pastels. I wanted to do Christmas crafts week but I did not start! This mandala is the only thing  I did this week.

The pattern is nice and interesting , The mandala is beautiful by itself without blocking ,
I did a small mistake in the final round , so i dint get a good shape. I tried blocking and then also its not perfect ! hmmm...thats okay!! Mistakes happen.

Autumn is in full swing and its is soooo beautiful , loving it totally!! And I am thanking God for this wonderful blessing to watch and experience it!!

Weather is really cold but I dont mind walking a little to enjoy until it lasts!

Christmas Mandala

Have you started your Christmas crafts? I have just started mine. Unlike yesteryears this year i havent planned much. But I will definitely make some handmades this year. Now that every stores started their Christmas stocks , I have a big time pass just  going through all of it after dropping little miss to school. oh how I love watching these!!

Speaking of this Mandala, i made it for the CAL started by my friends on Ravelry. This pattern being the most popular in the CAL I chose this as my first. Its an easy pattern if you like colour changes. I chose Christmas colours for obvious reasons and this will adorn my table for the season . Love the colours and transition, i stopped the pattern at round 22 when i got the size i wanted. the actual pattern has a few more rounds. Still it doesnt look incomplete and thats the beauty of it.

I had such a happy month of October. It was month of stash busting and I am soo happy about it. I will share some of projects I did last month.

First of all this project bag which was something i needed. I was relying on plastic cover for carrying  my project here which was not cool. With some leftover laura knitting cotton which I wanted to finish off  I whipped up this bag and it came up pretty well and colourful.
For the bag base I followed this pattern , rest of it is inspired from Lucy's bag  but hdc's through out.I loved the way it turned out and is putting good use of it now. You see the pretty flowers on the handles?

Then I made these holiday themed mats with Laura knitting cotton again. The pattern is just dc round and scallop edging. I havent planned much for this holiday season except for some snowflakes. But who knows??

I changed wall decor from Summer to Autumn with this Mandalas and to finish off some leftover yarns.I made up this mandala on the go and dint follow any pattern. In Ravelry my friends started a Mandala cal and I am joining it.

Then there is my large pineapple doily which I am not able to finish as I ran out of thread. I just have 2 more rounds to go but cant help it. The thread was a gift from a friend n now i have to search for it. The doily is big and beautiful but I feel the  pending rounds give more beauty and character to it.

These are my major craft works in October. It was a beautiful month otherwise too. Autumn started and I am so much in love with colours of nature.
So until next time

Doily love

I love doilies, i love making them , for me its not that old fashioned. I find a way to display them.  When my crafty friends asked for a doily along I dint even think and just jumped in. But then I couldnt stop at one. The first I made was pookalam doily and then i took that along a little seriously.

I had a few Red heart size 10 thread in my stash. When I saw the cluster stitch doily on Threadies Facebook group, i quickly downloaded the pattern and started doing it.I find this pattern an easy one if you like clusters and it grow really fast and large. The doily is very beautiful and huge.

Usually I lightly starch my doilies while blocking it, for this one I just dip it water and pinned to shape. Its still holds the shape nicely. And I couldnt stop it there , i started the second one again in Red heart size 10 in the colour Lavender. My friend Nima  gifted me this thread some years back. I wanted to do a skirt for little H with this , I know thats not going to happen any time soon, so I made a beautiful doily with this.
This is from the Ondori book Pineapple Lace, Oh!! I love this book of doilies, the pictures and pattern in this book are awesome!
The design is pretty and this doily also is quite big and now I am making my third doily which is the large pineapple doily, i think that takes quite some time as I am doing one row a day. but who knows!!
I am stash busting and so happy with my efforts so far, there are a few finishes to come in  this space.
Till next time

Happy Onam

Hey all,
Happy Onam to all malayalees !!
Today we Keralites celebrate Onam , our biggest festival in Kerala. Growing up I have so many good memories of this festival which all starts after our term exams in school finishes. Cousins, games, swing, sadya and the best part - making pookalam. My mom never allowed to pluck flowers from her garden except for Onam (that too she had reservations). We make a small pookalam with flowers and leaves, there will be sadya which we eat on banana leaf sitting on floor. This Onam , as Im on rest with my sprained leg , there wont be much celebration.

I made this doily inspired by the pookalam we make during Onam. Thats the favourite thing of mine for this festival, I loved making this one. This is an easy and small pattern. I am in love with these colours now.

Project Details:
Pattern: Winter's breath Doily
Yarn : Anchor Mercerised Cotton size 20
Hook: 1.5mm steel hook
Size :9"

So wishing everyone a very happy and fun Onam, enjoy!!

Reversible Spike Cushion

Hello everyone,
Summer is getting over and it was really awesome! We really had good time this year. The little miss's nursery re-started last week. This summer I did not do as much crochet as I wanted to, but no regrets! I enjoyed time with friends and family.  it was good!! And I realised I wasnt socialising much and how much fun it is when you do.
I finished the spring blanket sometime in July itself, but I am yet to find a good photograph to show its actual beauty. After finishing that I did not touch my hook for more than 2-3 weeks and this cushion cover was the project where I restarted.

I had that inertia and was talking to Nima about it, she was on a cushion making spree and we discussed a few patterns, I tried basket weave stitch with her, but it was not coming well for me. Then she suggested this one. I love this pattern, its easy and I tried with colours from my stash. I am on yarn/craft diet,so far a good girl and not spent a single penny for last 3 months. Its difficult actually!!

The colours are really bright for my liking , Im happy I dint go and buy more for that reason. I love making pillows, I will be making more of it. Im yet to start my colour themed home decor.

Pattern: Reversible Spike Cushion Cover

Summer Wall Decor

I love decorating home, I love the thinking process, execution and it gives me pleasure. (I dont say my home is clean, neat and decorated always but I try to keep it tidy as possible) Now my colour pallette has all bright colours ,It changes time to time.

Another thing I love is changing decor according to seasons/occassion/festivals. I dont like to see same things over and over.

So for this summer I created these for one wall. The process was simple but I love the outcome totally. The flowers on canvas are leftovers from Primavera blanket.

This Mandala is going rounds on instagram and I wanted to do this. The pattern is beautiful ,I love it. I chose colours matching to the canvas  and used Stylecraft Special DK.

Project Details:
Pattern: Magnolia Mandala
Yarn:Stylecraft Special DK
Size :9.5"

Thats all for today

June '16

Half year gone in a blink! My last post here was before Easter , never thought i take a three months break from here coz of active craft side of life. In between little Miss and myself went for a one month vacation to Kerala,India.

The Spring blanket which I wanted to finish before Easter is extending the deadline. The current update of that is I joined all squares , have to weave in the ends and do border now. The process is boring now, but I'm loving the look.

With some leftover flowers I made these wall decor. Im planning to do two Mandalas and replace those hats of little Miss. I glued flowers onto the painted canvas, as easy as it can be!

Then these mulberry flower balls which was afternoon activity. Again these flowers are glued onto Styrofoam balls.
I have a few more things to show, which I will save for next post.

Spring Blanket -in the making

hello everyone!
How you been? Its already March and I just cant think its two months down already this year. There are some signs of spring here and day is getting brighter and beautiful. It really brightens up the mood too. So I started a new project which is a blanket on spring theme!
when the little one photobombed when I was taking pictures, but it came out beautifully!

I have mentioned in one of my previous posts about my to-do things on themes/colours, this is one among it. I always wanted an off-white based blanket. hmm..i know its not meant for Indian households.  Maybe it rests mostly on cupboard or even if it sees light I might scream" dont touch, it gets dirty" I am still not sure if I use it or it will be a showpiece. But i decided to give it a go!Dreams are meant to happen ;)

I am very excited and work on it daily. I am not at the super healthy mode right now,I am tired physically and  i think I have to sit idle and take rest. FYI I never sit idle at my home, I will be working on some or other thing always. If i sit for a movie or tv  at home there will be crochet in my hand. I dont like to sit idle, i hate it, its boring, it makes me lonely! So the progress is a little slow this week , but I aim to finish this before Easter!

So how do you like the squares? The pattern is Primavera flowers from Dada's place. I love her blog and her creations. Hop over to her blog if you haven't, I am sure you will like it too.. So until next time

On a seperate note, Thanks to all lovely people who visited my blog recently and made an effort to put your comment.I love reading it even if its just a word. I linked two of my posts on Linda's Stash buster Link party and those two were among popular posts. yay!! thanks sweethearts!

Sunburst Cushion

Hey all,
So my second cushion is ready!its more of warm tones, perfect for Autumn!. This was also a stash buster project where I again chose the colours randomly. I had a feeling that using off white will make it subtle n beautiful and after finishing the cushion i felt it right.

I wanted circle in a square  and just used the pattern that i queued in ravelry. The pattern is very good and if you use different colours it will be a stunner. I was not in that mood to mix up colours and I did not have that much coordinating colours too.

The back side is traditional granny square. After crochet and joining front and back side I gave single crochet with picot edging all around and it gives this cushion cover a definition. I think doing a border is always a good thing. The buttons are selected from my collection itself . I asked my little bee to choose pink and green buttons from the big-small dubba and she loved that process. Now she shows up the buttons on these cushion every time. Her little credit!

Project Details:
Pattern: Sunburst Granny
Yarn: Stylecraft Special DK  in colours Lime,Tomato,Shrimp
          Nako Prilanta in offwhite.Hook: 4mm
Size: 15" x 15"

Now my acrylic yarn stash is used up mostly. I have mostly scrap yarns now. Now I have started up using cotton by making flowers mostly. I'vent started any other thing so far. Many plans are there but nothing decided. Next post probably will be about the handmades I sell,
So see you soon

Pom Pom decor

Pinterest is really addictive! When I am really bored I open it and you never know where time went! I have pinned so many interesting things there and never bothered to try anything. These days I am cleaning up my stash and there were a few colours of scrap yarns and I wanted to use those. I thought of wrapping bottle with those but then I tried that for Christmas(which I haven't posted here). Then this pom pom decor idea came to my mind.

I started making pom poms with these blues and greys, its really therapeutic. I used finger method for some and fork for some. The ones with fork came out pretty neat , but wrapping over finger was easier.

I made small garlands also with pom poms. We moved to this house 8 months before and I haven't done much decor other than Christmas. It was all plain and after Christmas I felt it quite boring. I don't want to buy new things coz we never know when we have to move back to Bangalore. So recycling works the best!

The vase is old jam jar wrapped with jute yarn and decorated with a few mulberry flowers.  The book rack top was bare all this time . And this adds a bit of charm there. With a few candles nearby it looks nice. What do you think?
Edited to add : these are skewers where pom poms are sticked.

I am clipping some family pics on the lights and that corner is complete. I am so in love with this thing. Now thinking of what to make next. The week passed quite quickly and this is the only craft thing I completed this week. There are a few things I started, hope to finish all those soon.
Till next time

Something yellow

This pattern is one among my favourite. I started many a projects in this pattern and never able to finish a single one. This year , I have decided to use up all/half of yarn I have collected before buying anything new. Its going to be two months and I still stick to what I decided though tempted to buy many a times. This project I started as a stash buster.

One fine day I just started making yellow flowers , I was not sure if I could complete this cushion , but then that evening I completed all squares. Then I ran out of yellow(mission accomplished evil grin) and took  green just like that to join the squares. And I believe it worked beautifully!

Third day I started with the back side of pillow which is good ol' granny square. And then I had to wait for right buttons which I bought last week. I really feel the different patterned buttons give a rustic look to the whole thing.

I usually work with cotton yarn for my pillows, but this yarn though its acrylic, gives a really good finish. I was not sure if this colours would work, sometimes things work beautifully than we ever imagine , you just have to give it a go!

Pattern: Something pretty
Yarn: Stylecraft Special DK  in colours Silver, Citron, Meadow

World's largest crochet Blanket

Hey friends,

One month down in 2016 and I feel it went superfast! The first month brought so much happiness and a Guinness record for which I am part of .The record is for the Worlds largest crochet blanket which is 11148sqmt.It is on the name of the group 'Mother India's Crochet Queens'.

Its surely a proud moment and I really appreciate everyone who took part in this mission and admire the leaders who coordinated  really hard on this. They did a commendable work. The blanket is really huge and here is a view of it.

All ladies crocheted 4 ft crochet blankets and later joined to make this big giant. The event was held in Chennai. The blanket is now divided into small little blankets and given to charity. I am so glad that i am also a part of it. The record is ours!
Meanwhile I am crocheting a cushion cover which is almost finished now, I want to take a picture outdoor to show it here. Dont know if that happens.anyway that will be my next post.

Crochet flowers on canvas

Hey everyone,

Every crafter will have a big list of to do things always on their notebook, I'm no different. I add new things every now and then , and priorities also changes accordingly. Sometime back I planned to make a few home decor things according to colours I love. I listed down what all things to make, but then it stayed in the planning stage itself.
There was this canvas frame(s) on the list , but couldnt finalise one design, I want to make a doily frame, applique , mosaic, painting, and so many other things. Then I put the whole idea aside and started planning something else.
Today that canvas idea again came to my mind after dropping little one to school, I bought some acrylic paint from the store and gave it a try . Everything was done on the go. And here is the result.

I painted yellow acrylic paint on a plain canvas and glued flowers on it. I have a fairly good number of crochet flowers always, all leftovers after some projects I do. I wanted a very pastel yellow background but this is a little brighter for my likes. Everything selected on the go, I dint spend much time to select flowers and buttons.  But happy with the overall look and it was a good project for instant gratification. It took hardly one hour to assemble the whole thing and I'm sure I ll be making more canvas works from now on , based on my colour theme.

In between, I joined a  all year CAL on ravelry and I made this Katherine rose square  this month, The colours were chosen randomly but there is all possibility that I try same pattern on different colour combo.

So how do you like my colourful post. Do let me know.
So until next time
Take care
